Increasing Geoheritage Awareness through Non-Formal Learning

Non-formal learning can have a crucial role in increasing citizens’ literacy to geoscience providing the opportunity raise public profile of geology and geomorphology. Starting from these remarks, project presented here is one first attempts, at national level, aimed achieving territorial upgrading based on geoheritage enhancement. The started thanks bottom-up input involved collaboration between scholars local administrations stakeholders for valorization fluvial area within Municipality Castellarano (Emilia Apennines, Northern Italy). To achieve this aim non-formal activities, interpretation geoheritage, been implemented. In fact, investigated includes valuable geological geomorphological features which used, frame presented, promote geodiversity geotourism. particular, three geosites regional significance were considered creation EarthCaches, interpretative panels guided excursions. Interpretative contents designed be educational, accurate but non-technical explanations. Attention was given including illustrations playing an important process. results revealed that implemented activities positively contribute raising awareness value geoheritage.
